Discover and taste
the Périgord Vert

Other than the activities offered at Montagenet, sports, tourism, history and sight-seeing enthusiasts will find plenty to do in the immediate vicinity of the estate.

For information only, here are some of the things you can do and some of the tourist attractions to visit.

From Nontron, several hiking and mountain bike routes are available (see the Office du Tourisme de Nontron).

Even at Nontron, tourism, history and sight-seeing enthusiasts can discover the oldest cutlery works in France (re-built in 2000, by Luc Arsène-Henri and Philippe Starck), where, since 1653, Nontron knives have been manufactured with boxwood or ebony handles.

At the château of Nontron, the Pôle Expérimental Métiers d’Arts de Nontron et du Périgord Vert (chaired by José Ferré, your host at Montagenet) presents 4 to 7 exhibitions per year. Arts and crafts enthusiasts can visit some twenty workshops or participate in workshops and courses.

Some 20 km away from the estate, Brantôme, the Venice of the Périgord, merits a longer visit due to its charm, its abbey, its castles and its fine restaurants.

Farther south, beyond Périgueux, there are prehistoric sites (Lascaux II, gulf of Proumeyssac) or attractions (Aquarium du Périgord noir, village of Bournat) which are all well worth a visit for the day.
